Live Cretan Music at the village Achlada in Honor of Saint John.

ΑΧΛΑΔΑ Ο Οικισμός της Αγιάς Πι Πελαγιάς ανήκει στην Κοινότητα τικ; Αχλάδας, του γραφικού χωριού που βρίσκεται νοτια του όρμου σκαρφαλωμένο σε μια βόρεια πλαγιά του βουνού Βασιλικό, σ” ένα υψόμετρο 300μ. Οι κάτοικοί του που υπερβαίνουν σήμερα τούς 550 ασχολούνται κυρίως με τον τουρισμό, τις γεωργικές καλλιέργειες και την μικρή κτηνοτροφία. Το όνομα του χωριού προέρχεται από την αγριαχλαδιά, ένα αυτοφυές δέντρο, που αφθονούσε στην περιοχή όπου κτίστηκε το χωριό.
Η Αχλάδα είναι γνωστή από τα μεσαιωνικά χρόνια και μαρτυρείται σε πηγές του 1577 και 1583 με 63 τότε κατοίκους. Κατά τα χρόνια της βενετοκρατίας στην Κρήτη η Αχλάδα ήταν φέουδο των αδελφών Γεωργίου και Φραγκίσκου Μοδινού, με 35 σπίτια χωρικών και δύο εκκλησίες. Βορειοανατολικά του χωριού βρίσκονται τα ερείπια άλλου οικισμού, που ονομαζόταν Καντανού και ανήκε επίσης στους αδελφούς Μοδινού. Οι κάτοικοι’ του, μαζί με τους κατοίκους των άλλων γύρω χωριών, μετακινήθηκαν στην Αχλάδα, μετά την επίθεση και λεηλασία τους, κατά τον πόλεμο με τους Τούρκους 1645-1669. Το 1881 είχε 347 κατοίκους και το 1900 είχε 429. Το γραφικό αυτό χωριό έχει τον δικό του τοπικό αρχιτεκτονικό ρυθμό, προσφέρει μια θαυμάσια θέα προς τις παραλίες, τα βουνά, τα λαγκάδια και τα γύρω χωριουδάκια και κατοικείται από φιλόξενους και ευγενικούς κρητικούς.
